The Story

Before it is a printing project, it is a Tanya: the foundational work of Chabad Chassidus, a book about the soul, the inner struggle, and the greatness a person can uncover within themselves.

The Rebbe explained that this is why printing a Tanya in a place carries meaning. It is not only about producing a book. It is about bringing that light into the life of a community.

Since the Rebbe's call, the Tanya has been printed as far as Alaska and Jamaica, to Jewish communities across the globe.

Now, for the very first time, Notting Hill will have its own Tanya, printed here as a milestone in the growth of Jewish life in our area. It is a beautiful way to mark that Torah, Chassidus, community and Jewish warmth are taking deeper root here.

The Cover

This Tanya will also carry the feel of Notting Hill. The cover is being created especially for this edition by a local artist, reflecting the colour, creativity and open spirit of the neighbourhood.

Notting Hill has its own feel — artistic, eclectic, stylish and alive. The cover will give this Tanya a local face, while the words inside remain the timeless words of the Alter Rebbe.

In that sense, the cover is part of the message: the deepest ideas of Chassidus belong here too.

Created locally

A specially designed Notting Hill cover, created by a local artist, will make this edition feel personal to our area and to this moment in our community.

Notting Hill

A new chapter for Jewish life here.

This printing is a quiet but powerful statement that Torah, Chassidus, community and Jewish warmth have a home in Notting Hill.

Frequently Asked

What is the Tanya?

The Tanya is the foundational work of Chabad Chassidus: a book about the soul, the inner struggle, and the possibility of living with more purpose and closeness to Hashem. Click here to read more on Chabad.org.

What's up with printing our own edition of the Tanya?

The Rebbe taught that Tanya should be printed wherever Jews live, so that the light of Chassidus should not remain distant or abstract, but become connected with each place in a real and tangible way. Since that call, Tanya has been printed in thousands of locations around the world - close to 7,000 editions, from places from Alaska to Jamaica, Dubai, Vietnam and beyond. Now, for the very first time, we will be printing Tanya here in Notting Hill. It is our way of marking that Torah, Chassidus, community and Jewish warmth are taking deeper root here — and that Notting Hill, too, has its place in this story.

What does it mean to dedicate part of the Tanya?

Your name, family name, or dedication will be printed inside the Tanya itself. It means you are not only supporting the project from the outside; you are becoming part of the book itself, with an eternal share in this special Notting Hill edition.

When will the printing take place?

The printing will take place at Rabbi Shneur Wineberg's 40th Birthday farbrengen on July 13th.
